On Saturday morning there was a thick coating of hoar frost in a field in Primehook Wildlife Refuge. This formed in an early morning fog while the temperature was below freezing. Ice crystals covered all of the vegetation in the field, a beautiful site.

I went back to the Harp Seal late this afternoon and she was still in the same spot. She napped most of the day while loons swam just offshore in the ocean. Upon waking, she yawned and rolled around on the beach covering herself with sand. I’m sure a rinse off in the ocean was on her to do list.
