See Like the Bees

When you look into the woods now, at least in the Mid-Atlantic region, the trees are very red with popping buds. Have you ever looked very closely at what makes this beautiful red color? The bees certainly know it is thousands and thousands of flowers waiting to be pollinated to make leaves. Here then is a bee’s eye view of the eastern woods.

The Unrolling of the Ferns

Appropriately, the unfurling of spring is, perhaps, best represented by the unrolling of ferns. I found these recently as they uncurled in a warm afternoon sun. It is certainly welcome to see the seasonal greening of the Mid-Atlantic region.
