Better known as Vanessa atalanta, or Red Admiral butterfly. I watched this one and several friends having a wonderful time on a buttonbush plant. This one is showing you the wings up mode.

There are thousands of these handsome dragonflies currently hanging out in the salt marshes of Delaware. It is quite a spetacle and I have been out the past three morning tking their portraits. The wings turn from dark to golden with just a slight turn toward the sun.

My photography centers on bringing interesting subjects found in nature to anyone who cares to look at my work. This morning I waded into a very wet, muddy marsh to look for insects. Several will be dispalyed here over the next few days, and I am starting with this beautiful caterpillar feeding on a wet leaf. I cannot find this one in the field guides I have so if anyone can help with the identification I will be most appreciative.
Credit goes to Pam Bieler who identified this guy as a Smeared Dagger Moth caterpillar. Thanks Pam!

I wonder if this Oyster Catcher sneaks a peek at itself in the water as it flies. I found this one a few mornings ago just after a very still sunrise.

Getting down to the level of Laughing Gulls feeding on Horseshoe Crab eggs gives you the feel of being just one of the gulls.

Black Skimmers from this morning. It was calm, with a mirror finish on the water.
