Egrets are one of my favorite subjects when photographing in the wetlands of Delaware. They are back now and I look forward to many new shots this spring, summer and fall. I took this portrait on my way into work this morning.

Continuing in the vein of really looking forward to the return of the birds of summer, I checked back to see when I first photographed egrets last spring. This Snowy Egret was shot on April 16 last year. I’ll start looking closely for them toward the end of this month.

Subjects I enjoy photographing very much are egrets. Somewhere south of Delaware egrets and many other shorebirds will feel the urge to fly north soon. I, for one, can hardly wait. These two were photographed on the last day of spring last year in a Delaware marsh.

At sunset tonight I came upon about 50 egrets busily fishing before dark. Too bad for the fish.
