This Harp Seal looks like it had a run in with the sandman, but it is just the trapping of napping on the beach without a towel to lie on.

A combination of travel and really lousy weather here at the Delaware Coast has resulted in no new photos on my blog for a long while. I aim to remedy that. This photograph was taken just about this time last year. I hope for bright sunny mornings so I can get back out in the field

I detoured to a Delaware Bay marsh on the way to work this morning. It was a nice sunrise, 48 degrees out but with the bright clear sky it would warm to about 70. I scouted for birds in the marsh, and finding none I looked a little closer at what was around me. Refocusing allowed me to find these beautiful fall blooming wildflowers growing along the marsh’s edge.

I stopped this evening to look closely at Goldenrod growing adjacent to the marsh. Clinging to the yellow flowers was this Ailanthus Webworm Moth which frequents meadows from southern New England south to the Gulf of Mexica and west to Michigan. Good to know that the edge of wetlands are like a meadow.

The Delaware coast is well known for the World War II observation towers. Here is one in a nice sunrise a few days ago.

These deer welcomed in a strong west wind this afternoon as fall-like weather spread across Delaware today. The adult female has very blue eyes.
