American Goldfinches are common in Delaware, but they are not seen commonly if you do not have feeders out. Flocks of them have been working on these seed heads and as they dip and soar through the air they look like daytime yellow comets.

Looking back at some photos I took last week I saw this skimmer and decided to add it to the collection.

These Semipalmated Sandpipers were so entranced in their search for horsehoe crab eggs that the flying mud from waves breaking on the Delaware Bay shore were hardly noticed.

This Eastern Box Turtle was seeking shade Saturday morning as the heat wave we are having in Delaware was just getting started. I hope it has been staying out of the sun the last few days.

These Tree Swallows are nesting in a box put up for Bluebirds in Lewes.

This past Sunday morning a variety of egrets had easy pickings on small fish.

Black Skimmers were all over a coastal pond tonight as the sun set. With no wind blowing the water surface was like a mirror

I photgraph wildlife at sunrise and sunset as many days each week as I can. I am usually hurrying to get to where I think something may be found. The top photo is a wild vetch, I think, and the bottom two are of Blue Flag Iris, a wildflower native to Delaware.

I found the Black Skimmers again this morning, loafing on a sand bar. It is rare to be able to get so close to them and I am happy to share some of the close pictures I have been able to get. Here are two more.

I have never been so close to Black Skimmers as I ws this evening. They have beautiful markings and a very distinctive call. I took a lot of photos tonight and I may find better as I cull through all that I shot. I wanted to put a few up tonight. I will go back to this marsh at sunrise tomorrow to see what else may be there.
