Earl was a hurricane that moved north along the Atlantic coast last September. He sent his greetings to the Delaware coast in the form of waves, big waves!!

A cold front pulled through the coast today, bringing in heavy winds blowing offshore. These winds met with large storm born waves, creating majestic opposition of the force of waves and wind.

A few shorebirds were working the rocks last evening, dodging waves as they broke against the boulders. This Ruddy Turnstone got up just in time to miss a dousing. Wings win!!

Waves from Hurricane Earl were a welcome relief for surfers from the flat summer ocean condition.

Hurricane Earl passed offshore of the Delawre coast today, doing little more than casting big waves to shore. The sun came out from behind clouds just before it set, lighting up Earl’s waves nicely.

I have a fascination with waves and I love to freeze them in photographs to see the variety of actions that occur as a wave breaks. here you can see sand laden water flowing into the face of a wave as it breaks right on the shore.
