Continuing with thoughts I had from my last post about looking ahead toward the arrival of fall and the weather it brings, the Atlantic typically comes alive with storms following the doldrums of summer. Two years ago on September 23 I took photos of Yemaya Chatel ripping it up in Ocean City waves generated by Hurricane Fiona. Fiona passed the US east coast well offshore but generated great waves for surfing. There has been a lull in the Atlantic for a couple of weeks now when it comes to tropical storms. That may be changing. Weather forecasters today are talking about some possible storm development that could eventually be threats to the US. This is supposed to be an active season and, as we enter the second half of the hurricane season we are wise to keep an eye on the tropics. I know surfers, aka deeply committed wave watchers, are tuned into the possibility of great waves days in advance. Ask your favorite surfer when the next big day is coming, they will know well before the rest of us.
