Lewes lore states that Savannah Road in Lewes was so named because it goes from in-town to the marsh on Lewes Beach. Researching the word a bit, a savannah is defined many ways, ranging from strictly tropical and subtropical grasslands, sometimes with tree cover, to a simple grassland. Personally, I relate Savannahs with African grasslands populated with large herds of grass eating megafauna. If my sense of a savannah is zebra and wildebeest migrating through central Africa, you may understand why this view of the marsh behind my house immediately made me think that Delaware savannahs do exist. Ok, so this is not a herd of whitetail deer but two bucks relaxing in the tidal grassland does kinda looks like a scene out of Africa right? Let the 2 bucks jokes begin, give me your best shot.
