February 10

There is a flock of Dunlins that is found every day now at the same marsh pond.  They have a unique behavior which I assume is a good defense against potential predators.  Flying one way they are white and, instantly, they reverse direction and the flock becomes dark.  Back and forth, white and dark, and then settle down to feed a while longer. It’s quite a show.

Tonight the wind was howling at Cape Henlopen.  Blowing sand was the dominant feature of sunset there.  Only the dune grass seemed unaffected by the pelting of millions of grains of sand.
