Substitute Teacher

The Green Heron parents were off finding the next meal for their young while one of the juniors appeared to lecture its very attentive sibs on life in the branches. Or so it seemed to me.

Cape Henlopen Mesa

Looking very much like a mesa in the desert southwest, this wind carved dune stands as a monolith in the dune field of Cape Henlopen State Park.

North winds blew hard last week leaving signs in the dunes like these arcs drawn by dune grass leaves circulating in the wind.

Yellow Blanket

I was out on a bike ride yesterday afternoon and saw a blanket of yellow wildflowers on the edge of some woods. I went back to them late this afternoon with camera and lenses to photograph the beautiful yellow patch among the trees.

Easter Sunrise

Easter Sunday was overcast with a rainy afternoon here in Delaware, but the day started off with a very nice sunrise. This was Indian River Inlet this morning at 6:46.

Spring Surprise

Daylight hours are longer, daffodils are in bloom, spring peepers are chirping, red buds on trees are getting larger, winter birds have left and summer birds are arriving, but the weather hasn’t been told apparently. It’s spring in Delaware and any type of weather can, and probably will happen. Today it snowed, perhaps the last snow of the season (hopefully) and probably in two weeks I will be cutting the grass wearing shorts. You just have to love spring in the Mid-Atlantic. This was the scene just outside of Dover this morning.

Studio Portrait

I had an opportunity recently to do some studio portrait work. I thought this portrait worked better in black and white.

Vernal Pond Lines

A wet winter produces spring season ponds that frogs and other amphibians love. I loved the collection of lines found in this scene.
