Late in the afternoon of our second day on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, Pam and I hiked to Dark Hollow Falls. It is a 1.8 mile round trip hike (measured on an iPhone) BUT the trail TO the falls is all downhill. By the time we got to the falls my legs were mostly rubber from the long, steep, continuous descent. We are flat landers and I can walk for miles here in Lewes but my knees don’t get much incline to work with in southern DE. The late afternoon sun was backlighting the falls when we arrived so I worked with the light I had before ascending back to the car. My legs screamed at me every step back up the trail. If pain is growth I grew a lot that afternoon. A cold beer was waiting in the car and was very much earned and enjoyed. It is a beautiful spot and I would do that hike again in a heartbeat.
