Here on the Delaware coast, March often feels like a month of hopeful anticipation—spring seems just around the corner. But in reality, cold winds persist, and we must wait a little longer than our inland neighbors for truly warm air. Surrounded by the Atlantic, the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays, the Delmarva Peninsula is at the mercy of chilly waters that cool the incoming breeze from nearly every direction. As a result, spring’s arrival is slow, testing our patience and stirring a fair share of frustration. This photograph, taken this morning looking down Wolfe Glade toward the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal and the Atlantic, perfectly captures the mood of March—more than a little gloomy. At least, that’s how it feels to me.
