A couple of days ago we were raking out some leaves around an old holly stump and uncovered these mushrooms that I think are mica cap mushrooms. It had been in the upper twenties over nigh and, despite the fact that we were raking in early afternoon, the leaves had offered great insulation form the walker mid-day air and the mushrooms still had some frost them. I found this late season bloom of mushrooms both interesting and oddly beautiful. Nature working in its all encompassing way, thriving mushrooms under the leaves in mid December.
